Bottom line. No machine is universally better. Contoura leads on evidence for optical quality, SMILE on dry eye and flap safety, the Z8 on gentleness and thin corneas. Candidacy and the surgeon matter more than the machine.
Target vision. 6/6 (20/20) is the standard, safe goal. 6/5 (~20/16.7) is sharper but means aiming slightly overcorrected, which can bring earlier near-vision strain and more night glare. Not worth chasing deliberately.
